ICC and ICC-Australia will be organizing the following events in September 2010:

Event: "International Arbitration in Australia and Beyond"
Date/Venue:
13 and 14 September 2010 in Sydney
16 and 17 September 2010 in Perth

Highlights
Through a series of ICC arbitration symposia - four events in Sydney and Perth, the ICC will seek to promote and expand the knowledge of contemporary practices in international arbitration. The focus will be on developments in international arbitration in Australia and the Asia Pacific and how ICC arbitrations are relevant in the region. The programme will include certain sector-specific issues such as arbitrating banking and finance disputes; arbitration agreements in mining and exploration contracts etc....

PAST EVENTS

50th Anniversary of the New York Convention Presentation

On 27 February 2008, Professor Gillian Triggs, Dean of the Law School of the University of Sydney, made a presentation on "The 50th Anniversary of the 1958 New York Convention on the Reciprocal Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards: Promotion of the Rule of Law and International Trade in the Asia Pacific". The Chairman for the meeting was Sir Gerard Brennan, former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia.

The event was hosted by Freehills in Sydney, and was organised with the support of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Australia (CIArb), ARBITRALWOMEN, the Australian Maritime and Transport Arbitration Commission (AMTAC), the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA) and AFIA.

Erik Wilbers Presentation

On 3 December 2007, the Victorian Chapter of CIArb in conjunction with AFIA hosted a talk presented by Mr Erik Wilbers, the Acting Director and Head of the Domain Name Dispute Resolution Section of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Titled, "Arbitration and Mediation Today; WIPO, Domain Name and other Intellectual Property Disputes", the presentation was hosted by Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Melbourne and video linked to 6 cities across Australia and New Zealand.
